White: Diaz v St-Pierre still interesting

UFC president Dana White hinted on Wednesday that Nick Diaz remains in the frame for a welterweight showdown with Georges St-Pierre.

Diaz is currently serving a one-year suspension after testing positive for marijuana metabolites. Retroactively, that suspension ends on February 4, 2013.

Prior to the ban the former Strikeforce king had been campaigning for a rematch with interim welterweight title holder Carlos Condit, who won their first bout in a controversial decision.

Condit only got that fight after an injury to reigning champion Georges St-Pierre forced him out of a showdown with Diaz, and now Condit fights St-Pierre on November 17 in Montreal.

Should GSP triumph upon his return to the Octagon, Diaz's name will undoubtedly be thrown back into the hat, and White conceded: "It's a fight a lot of people want to see."

There is precedent for formerly banned fighters to walk into title shots, with Alistair Overeem set to do just that when he takes on the winner of Junior Dos Santos v Cain Velasquez next year.

However, given the fact that Diaz is coming off a loss, and St-Pierre's increasing link to Anderson Silva, White appeared to hint Diaz will have to win at least one fight before earning a title bout.

"When Diaz gets off of suspension, he'll probably fight against one of the top guys at 170lbs, and then we'll see what happens," White said.
