Jose Aldo has revealed he may move to lightweight after beating Frankie Edgar at UFC 156 in February.

Aldo is the king of the featherweight division, and he has appeared without a genuine challenge at 145lbs until Edgar's arrival.

The pair will share an Octagon on February 2 as the main event on a stacked card, and Aldo is viewing it as the test to see whether he can be competitive at 155lbs.

Edgar is a former champion of the lightweight division, having beaten the likes of Gray Maynard and BJ Penn. Aldo therefore believes a win over Edgar would show he can instantly mix it with the top contenders.

"I've considered going to lightweight," Aldo said. "As soon as my trainer decides that I can go up, then I will.

"This fight with Edgar will be a turning point. If I can win [against] him well, then I can prove that I can go [to lightweight].

"He has a very strong reputation thanks to destroying several opponents. That's the motivation for me to face him and that will be probably my last biggest challenge [at featherweight]."

Aldo would also benefit from being in a heavier weight class, having struggled at times to make 145lbs in the past.
