Pickett: Wineland rewarded for running
Brad Pickett expressed his frustration after suffering defeat to Eddie Wineland at UFC 155 on Saturday.
British bantamweight Pickett went to Las Vegas in search of a priceless victory that would book him an interim title shot. He left with a hugely damaging split decision loss.
Wineland utilised his additional reach and movement to keep Pickett at arm's length throughout the fight, picking the Brit off as he attempted to close the distance.
During the final 30 seconds Pickett waved his arms, gesturing to Wineland in an attempt to lure him into a brawl, but he could not make an impact despite his constant forward movement.
"I tried to push the fight. He was a tough fight and was able to keep coming in, picking me off and jumping back out of the pocket," Pickett said.
"He won the fight fair and square. When I heard a split decision being called I thought I might have a chance to win, but I don't think judges score aggression as much as they do other aspects.
"If I bring the fight to someone the whole time and they're running, I feel that people who fight that style should be rewarded for it."
Pickett later tweeted: "Just watched my fight back and would like to say well done to Eddie Wineland for a well fought fight, had a good game plan and stuck with it.
"For me in the fight, it was like I was a kid wanting to play with the kid next door and he was having none of it."
