St-Pierre admits he weighed over 170 for UFC 158

The MMA community is awaiting the response of Nick Diaz's camp after Georges St-Pierre confessed he did not weigh in at 170lbs for his title fight at UFC 158.

St-Pierre dominated Diaz for five rounds in the March 16 main event, but the American's camp immediately raised serious question marks over the weigh-in procedure.

A championship bout in the UFC dictates that both fighters must not exceed the limit - in this case the 170lb welterweight marker. However, it was claimed by Diaz's camp that they were told at late notice that the decimal would not be counted.

It was stated to Diaz that both he and St-Pierre could weigh 170.9lbs and it would still be counted as 170, contrary to what is stated in the contract. They therefore insisted that a rematch be made, with champion St-Pierre legally obliged to fight Diaz at 170.

Now St-Pierre has sparked further intrigue by admitting he too was shocked to learn he did not need to weigh in at 170.

"They came to us just before the weigh-ins and even I was surprised. They told us they were going to be rounding [down to the nearest pound]. I was as surprised as Nick Diaz," St-Pierre was quoted as saying by The Associated Press.

St-Pierre's official weight has never been given, but he claims he came in at 170.4lbs, which is technically over the limit. However, he still had shorts on, so the likelihood is he could easily have made the 170lb marker had it been raised at the time of the weigh-in.
