A UFC light heavyweight title fight between champion Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira will headline a pay-per-view event on February 22 in Las Vegas.

The event, UFC 170, will take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. The bout was initially announced for UFC 169 on February 1, but company president Dana White later admitted no deal was finalised for that date.

Jones (19-1) set the UFC record for consecutive light heavyweight title defences in September, defeating Alexander Gustafsson via unanimous decision for his sixth defence.

The bout was extremely close, which caused some speculation the UFC would book Jones and Gustafsson to an immediate rematch. UFC president Dana White told ESPN in October, however, Jones personally requested to fight Teixeira next.

Teixeira (22-2) has recorded 20 consecutive victories dating back to 2006. The Brazilian light heavyweight is 5-0 since signing with the UFC last year, a run that includes four finishes.
