John Hathaway hates to lose

John Hathaway claims he feels no need to obsess about his UFC 120 opponent, despite the fact October 16 resembles the Briton's first appearance on the main card of an English event.

Hathaway takes on the dangerous Mike Pyle in the welterweight division, knowing a further victory on the back of his win over Diego Sanchez would surely propel him towards the top 10 of the 170lb division.

Pyle has a long line of submission victims to his name, and he is also one of the few men who can match Hathaway's lengthy reach. The American is promising to put Hathaway through 'hell' at London's O2 Arena, but the Briton is remaining calm.

"I know what he likes to work for, and I just work to counter that and use my own attributes. I don't think about him in odd situations or anything like that!" Hathaway told ESPN.co.uk.

"I just get on with my training because I know that on the night I'm going to get to face him. I do think about him though."

Hathaway is yet to lose in 14 MMA fights, and he says it is a naturally ingrained will to win that drives him towards a future title shot.

"I love the competitiveness. I'm quite competitive by nature. I've got two older brothers and we always competed when we were growing up in football and rugby.

"I just want to be successful in this sport and hopefully be the best - that's what I'm striving for."
