Rashad Evans has hit back at Jon Jones' claims that their training sessions were one-sided, insisting the current UFC light-heavyweight champion used to beg him to be allowed back to his feet.

Jones and Evans used to be close allies, training together at Greg Jackson's gym and vowing never to fight each other. However, that has all taken a sour turn, with the pair set to square off later this year.

Champion Jones opened the verbal sparring on Friday, telling ESPN that he always got the better of Evans in training, claiming he went easy on his rival out of respect.

Evans tells a different story though, responding on his personal Twitter account.

"He is fake! The fighting is off the hook but as a person he is fake!" wrote Evans. "Get off your own fan bus because nobody is driving! You ain't as raw as you believe & I'm gonna show you!"

Evans continued: "Jon Jones must be high! Because I remember him looking at me, begging me to let him up because he couldn't get back to his feet in training."

Jones refused to be drawn into a war of words over the social network space, merely replying: "C'mon son".
