Jon Jones out of Rashad Evans fight

Jon Jones' maiden UFC light-heavyweight title defence has been put on ice after a hand injury forced him out of his anticipated encounter with Rashad Evans.

The UFC had pencilled in the 205lb showdown for UFC 133 in August, but Jones has been forced to withdraw due to an injury picked up against Mauricio Shogun Rua. The champion had been awaiting news on a damaged hand, and it has now been confirmed that Jones has a torn ligament in his right hand.

As a result, undefeated light-heavyweight prospect Phil Davis will step up to fight Evans on the UFC 133 card, widely expected for August 6.

The latest development means Evans has now missed out on a title fight twice in 2011, having pulled out of a clash with Rua due to a knee injury.

No timescale has been applied to Jones' return, but it is likely he will fight the winner of Evans and Davis at the end of the year.
