Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will fight Brendan Schaub at UFC 134, the UFC confirmed on Monday.

Numerous reports have emerged over the past week, first when Nogueira confirmed he would be on the Rio card and then when US media outlets cited Schaub as the opponent.

The UFC has now confirmed that both camps have signed bout agreements.

"The UFC 134 fight card has added a high-profile heavyweight battle," Dana White stated. "The 8-1 Brendan "The Hybrid" Schaub and former Pride and UFC champion Minotauro Nogueria have verbally agreed to the August 27 bout in Rio.

"Schaub is coming off a UFC 128 Knockout of the Night performance against another Pride legend, Mirko Cro Cop. The summer bout will be Nogueira's first return to the Octagon in 18 months after an injury took him out of his planned headlining bout last October."

Nogueira had been linked to Cro Cop after their memorable battle back in Pride, but Schaub is the form fighter in the heavyweight division, winning his last four - including a KO victory over Cro Cop.

Schaub's camp had actively campaigned for the Nogueira fight, knowing big names will propel him up the heavyweight ladder, and now ESPN can confirm he has got his man.
