The UFC is expected to announce an agreement for a welterweight title collision between Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz in the next week.

UFC president Dana White met with Diaz on Thursday, in order to convince the Strikeforce champion that a move to boxing is not in the best interests of his career.

Diaz had been heading for a boxing bout with Jeff Lacy, acknowledging the lucrative opportunities on offer compared with his current agreement with Strikeforce.

However, MMA Weekly reported on Friday that White has made a breakthrough to match Diaz with St-Pierre, in what will easily become the biggest earner of Diaz's career.

The UFC is expected to head to Montreal in December, and the event will be headlined by St-Pierre v Diaz, which pits the outstanding wrestling of the UFC champion against the vicious hands and dangerous jiu-jitsu of the Strikeforce king.

St-Pierre will have a point to prove following a disappointing display against Jake Shields, and the UFC is expected to announce the bout in the next 14 days.
