Cold-blooded Carwin ready to show 'no remorse'
Book your front-row seat for UFC 131: Carwin v Dos Santos right here
Shane Carwin used to be one of the UFC heavyweight division's nice guys, but he insists he will feel "no remorse" when he knocks out Junior Dos Santos this weekend.
Carwin is making his second run at the heavyweight belt, having lost his first title shot against Brock Lesnar. The new version of Carwin is leaner, fitter, and undoubtedly meaner.
Ahead of his showdown with Dos Santos at UFC 131, Carwin has lost a significant amount of weight, in the hope that it will give him extra cardio and speed against the fast hands of the Brazilian.
Both men hold a mutual respect; there has been no animosity during the build-up to their June 11 collision, but Carwin insists he will feel nothing when he leaves Dos Santos horizontal on the mat this weekend.
"I just happen to be really good at fighting, and I make a living doing it," he said. "I like Junior Dos Santos, I respect Junior Dos Santos, but I'm gonna knock him out, or I'm gonna tap him out, and I'm not going to feel any remorse for it."
Dos Santos has been claiming that his superior boxing skills will be too much for his rival, as well as a superior ability to fight hard for 15 minutes. Only one of Carwin's UFC bouts has gone into the second round, and that was his only loss.
"Junior Dos Santos can't match my wrestling skills," countered Carwin. "I've been wrestling since I was six years old.
"This is real simple. I'm not paid by the round, I'm paid to win. My whole dream is to be the UFC champion, and to get that title shot I've got to go through Junior Dos Santos.
"I don't have a doubt in my mind that I'll beat Junior Dos Santos, and then I'm going after the title."
