Yushin Okami vowed on Thursday to "smash Anderson Silva" when the pair square off at UFC 134 in Rio.

Okami takes on Silva in the Brazilian's home country for the UFC middleweight title, and he played down controversy over his decision to train for the fight with Chael Sonnen. Sonnen disrespected Silva by calling him Lyoto Machida's girlfriend, and Silva has been angered by Okami's choice of training partner.

Okami merely states he wanted to train with Team Quest ahead of the biggest fight of his life. The Japanese is the last man to inflict defeat on Silva, albeit via disqualification after The Spider unleashed an illegal upkick.

"I don't like that fight being down as a victory of mine but I had lessons there and I want to use everything," Okami told O Globo.

"I hope that now we will have a real end. I know he is a complete fighter and has no weak points. But, if I use all my technique, power and speed, I will smash Anderson Silva.

"Of course I promise I will defeat Anderson. I will use all what I learnt in life to accomplish this objective. I know Brazil is one of the great countries in MMA. I insist, it's an honour to be able to face him here.

"I hope they will be able to look at me as the man who defeated Anderson Silva and begin to be my fans. My only thought is to become the first Asian champion in UFC."
