Vettel's pit-lane start confirmed
Sebastian Vettel will start the United States Grand Prix from the pit lane after taking his sixth power unit of the 2014 season, the FIA has confirmed.
Vettel and Red Bull have said on numerous occasions a new power unit would be required in Austin. The FIA confirmed this to be true on Friday after FP1, meaning Vettel will line up from the pit lane for Sunday's race.
"The 6th complete power unit has been used by car 1," the statement read. "This is in breach of Article 28.4 of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations. The requirement to start the race from the pit lane is imposed in accordance with Article 28.4 c). The team notified the technical delegate of the change to the power unit elements on Monday 27th October at 17:41 ."
With a pit lane start now confirmed, qualifying is meaningless for Vettel, who said it is "very likely" he will sit out the session. However, this is yet to be confirmed by Red Bull.
