Hamilton seeks 'long future' at Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton says he is ready to personally negotiate a contract extension which will give him a "long future" at Mercedes after splitting from agent Simon Fuller's XIX Management.
Fuller, who Hamilton joined up with in early 2011, played a role in the Brit's switch to Mercedes ahead of last season, a move which has left him on the cusp of a second world championship after victory in Austin. In the days before the United States Grand Prix it emerged Hamilton had split from Fuller in order to manage his own affairs.
Hamilton's current Mercedes deal runs until the end of 2015 but extension talks were put on hold until the end of the season after his coming together with team-mate Nico Rosberg at the Belgian Grand Prix so he could focus on the title battle. That decision has paid dividends with Hamilton winning all five races since and the Brit wants to be in control of talks from his side when Mercedes returns to the negotiating table after Abu Dhabi.
"I'm quite comfortable doing it myself," Hamilton is quoted as saying in the Telegraph. "Nico [Rosberg] did his himself, Sebastian [Vettel] did his himself, and there's no reason I couldn't do it myself. Whether or not I will, I haven't decided myself. I hope to see a long future with this team. Nothing needs to be changed too much."
Rosberg received a "multi-year" contract extension in May this year.
