Queensland Reds have completed the signing of North Harbour fly-half Mike Harris on a two-year deal.
The former New Zealand Under-20 cap will join the Reds in November following the completion of the ITM Cup, adding cover for Quade Cooper at No.10 and in midfield as Ewen McKenzie seeks to continue the marked improvement shown during last season's Super 14 campaign.
Harris was named in the Blues' wider training group last season but has limited experience at Super Rugby level.
"I think he will be able to play a range or positions for us and he also brings an outstanding goal kicking ability that has seen him in the 80-90% range in the last two seasons," McKenzie said.
"Harris played New Zealand Under-20s at the same stage as Quade. He has four seasons of provincial rugby at North Harbour so he will bring youth and experience from a different playing environment. He is tall and quick and we are very confident that there is plenty of improvement in him."
Harris is eligible to play for Australia thanks to his grandmother and is excited about the crop of youngsters currently turning out for the franchise.
"Queensland has been good enough to give me a spot for the next two seasons and I intend to add value to the team and do the very best that I can for them," he said. "There are a lot of exciting young players in the Reds and I know I will enjoy my time with the team. Will Genia and Quade Cooper are two players that I think I can learn a lot from."
