Pastor Maldonado wants to stay with Williams beyond the end of this season because he hopes to win the world championship with the team.

Having joined Williams in 2011 - bringing with him a large amount of PDVSA sponsorship from Venezuela - Maldonado delivered the team's first victory in eight years at this season's Spanish Grand Prix. He's failed to deliver on that early-season promise, however, and hasn't scored a point since.

During a press conference in Venezuela, Maldonado said that he definitely wants to stay with Williams next season and is eyeing a title challenge.

"I would, without doubt, stay there a while, a year at least," Maldonado is quoted as saying by AS. "Before leaving Williams I would like to win the championship with them. I would give the opportunity for this great team - that gave me the opportunity for me to get on the F1 grid for the first time - to win a world championship."

Maldonado admitted, however, that a move elsewhere was a possibility.

"In F1 you never know what might happen ... there are enough teams on the grid."
