Button suffers phantom puncture
Jenson Button did not suffer a puncture during Friday practice at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix but lost time when a sensor registered that one of his tyres was losing pressure.
Button was called back to the pits during the second session to check the tyre over, but said it was not actually punctured.
"It wasn't the cleanest session but pretty good in terms of understanding the car," he said. "We lost a lot of time with what we thought was a puncture but it was a sensor failure. We had a lot of time off the circuit because we had to replace a few parts that got a bit warm, but in terms of understanding the car it was a reasonably good session."
Button changed from the usual running programme by using the set of medium compound tyres that are usually reserved for use in final practice. He said the decision would limit his FP3 running, but with conditions much hotter during that session than in the race, he does not think it will be an issue.
"I actually used tomorrow's new prime tyre this afternoon for my long run and to get a feel for it. There won't be a massive amount of running for me in FP3. Obviously we'll have the option run but you have to make sure you don't get too carried away in the heat of the day."
