Pastor Maldonado is confident he can maintain a strong pace throughout Sunday's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after qualifying third on the grid.

Maldonado was the surprise package in qualifying, putting his car on the second row of the grid behind Lewis Hamilton and Mark Webber. But he believes his car is capable of fighting with those around him on race pace too.

"It's going to be a tough race and it's going to be very, very close, but I think we have very good pace here and I'm really looking forward to tomorrow," he said. "I have a great feeling here in this track and I have a great feeling with the car."

He said the qualifying lap was as good as it could have been.

"I'm quite happy because we were very competitive all through the weekend, even yesterday, and consistently in the top ten, which is very good for us. It was a great lap in the last qualifying session."
