European and Commonwealth 400 metres hurdles champion Dai Greene has followed in Jessica Ennis' footsteps by pulling out of the London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace this weekend.

The Welshman has been hindered by a virus of late, but he was fit enough to compete in the 400 metres flat at the British trials in Birmingham last month.

Nonetheless, he has decided to take another rest in order to get himself primed for the World Championships in South Korea, which kick off on August 27.

"For all those asking, I am no longer running at Palace on the weekend," Greene said on Twitter. "[I] want to concentrate on training ahead of Daegu."

Meanwhile, his coach Malcolm Arnold has played down doubts over Greene's long-term fitness. "There are no issues about his fitness, he's fine," Arnold told BBC Sport.

"He is perfectly fit and we're spending time trying to make him fitter in the next couple of weeks ahead of going to Daegu on 15 August."
