London 2012 hopeful Jessica Ennis has taken the controversial decision to miss the sport's biggest meeting of the year on home soil.

Ennis had been expected to compete in the individual 100 metres hurdles at the Aviva London Grand Prix, which begins on Friday at Crystal Palace.

But she is wary of burnout ahead of this month's World Championships in South Korea, in which she will defend her heptathlon title, and will now give the London date a miss.

Ennis impressed in the five events she competed in during last weekend's World Championship trials, equalling her personal best in the shot putt, winning the high jump and finishing runner-up in the 100m hurdles.

"Crystal Palace is a great competition but I'm happy with the plan we have got," Ennis said. "That's why I did so many events. It's been a long weekend but now I know what changes I have to make."

The one sour note was her performance with the javelin, with a throw of 42.93m well short of what she will be hoping to achieve at more prestigious events.
