Indian athlete Rani Yadav has tested positive for the banned steroid nandrolone at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

Yadav, who finished sixth in the 20km walk, has been provisionally suspended ahead of a hearing later on Wednesday.

She is the third athlete to fail a drugs test, after two Nigerians - Samuel Okon and Damola Osayemi - tested positive for a banned stimulant. Osayemi has subsequently been stripped of her 100m title.

"It's very unfortunate," Lalit Bhanot, secretary general of the local organising committee, said. "We tried our level best. Not only the federations but also the National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) tried with our out-of-competition tests.

"The government is very serious about these things. One can't be controlled if the person is trying to take some forbidden substance to enhance their performance."

Osayemi lost her medal on Tuesday after a B sample confirmed a positive test for methylhexaneamine, while Okon - sixth in the 110m hurdles final - tested positive for the same drug.
