Felipe Massa said it was no surprise to see Sebastian Vettel on top after Friday practice at the Australian Grand Prix, but is happy with Ferrari's progress so far.

Vettel topped both sessions, with Massa less than a tenth off the Red Bull in FP1 but nearly a second off in FP2 when he had a KERS issue.

"It's no surprise that Vettel was first in both sessions, we don't see any surprise here," he said. "We've got a lot to do for tomorrow and Sunday and the rest of the championship, but it's a much better car than how we finished the championship."

Massa believes Ferrari has made a good start to the weekend and says the KERS problem meant he could not show his full potential.

"I think it was a positive start. Looking at the way we finished the season in 2012 and the way we started the first two sessions here, I think it was positive. I had a little problem with the super-soft on my first lap because we had a little issue with the KERS and so we lost a little bit of time because of that."
