Fernando Alonso said Friday practice for the Australian Grand Prix confirmed that Ferrari is "not the quickest".

Following the dismal pre-season campaign endured by the team in 2012, Ferrari has been more optimistic following an encouraging winter this time around. However, having finished FP2 in sixth place Alonso said Friday had proven the team still had work to do to match the pace-setters.

"I'm not expecting any major surprises here, we already knew we were not the quickest and that was confirmed today," Alonso said. "The car responds well, but we know there is still much to do if we want to fight with the very best."

With unsettled weather forecast for the weekend, Alonso said he was pleased to have had stable, dry conditions to carry out tests on Friday.

"Overall, this was a very productive Friday, as we did a lot of laps and got through an important initial analysis of the behaviour of the two types of Pirelli tyres available for this race. Our efforts were helped by particularly favourable weather with sunshine and summery temperatures. However, the weather is expected to change completely from tomorrow, with wind, rain and a significant drop in temperature, which could influence Sunday's race."
