Pole lap was not easy - Vettel
Sebastian Vettel insists taking pole position was not easy at the Australian Grand Prix, despite finishing the final session of qualifying 0.4s clear of the field.
Red Bull's dominant pace in dry conditions saw Vettel and team-mate Mark Webber lock out the front row, with Lewis Hamilton, their closest competitor, 0.6s off Vettel's time. Nevertheless Vettel said it was not straightforward taking pole on the drying track.
"It was definitely not easy in these conditions," he said. "I had a surprising feeling when I first went out in Q3 because the circuit was already very dry and I had two good runs, one on the inters and one on the drys and on the drys I think I got into the groove.
"The car felt pretty much in balance and similar to what I had on Friday and I was able to push in the lap but it is always tricky to push in these conditions, especially around the fast bit at turns 11 and 12 where there was one dry line.
"We were all pretty happy with the lap and as soon as I got confirmation from the pits [I was on pole] I pulled in to save the tyres."
