Bahrain will be a better marker - Button
Jenson Button is convinced the new schedule of the race in Bahrain plays right into the hands of McLaren.
McLaren had promised a step forward ahead of the race in Malaysia but seemed to go in the other direction, struggling with both the humidity and the high-speed corners in Sepang. While Sakhir is notoriously hot, the fact it has been moved back to the evening will ensure considerably cooler temperatures, which Button believes will give McLaren a perfect opportunity to show how much improvement it has really made since Melbourne.
"We have a good engine which helps us here," Button said. "There isn't as much high speed as Malaysia, and Malaysia is also hot. At the moment heat and high speed is tricky for us. High-speed downforce is an area we know we have to work on. Here it should be quite a bit better for us. Fuel consumption is pretty tricky here though. It will be the same for everyone, though some more than others for some reason, so there will be a lot needed before the race to get all of that in order and the first night race here should be pretty interesting."
Button will be making his 250th grand prix start in Bahrain but he insists he is nowhere near to considering life after F1 just yet.
"Being 14 years in the sport I still feel like I have more to learn. I'm certainly not the perfect driver yet, I never will be, and there's so much left for me to learn. New regulations change the sport quite a lot and make it exciting and give you even more to learn. That's what keeps me excited and keeps me on my toes and hopefully it will for many more years to come."
