Organisers of the postponed Bahrain Grand Prix are still hopeful the race can be rescheduled despite ongoing unrest in the country.

Bahrain's Sakhir circuit was initially meant to host the season-opening grand prix on March 13, but it was postponed in February by the Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa after protests in the island state. Later in March a three-month state of emergency was signalled, which appeared to all but end any hopes of the race taking place this season.

Al Khalifa, however, has said he maintains the hope that the race can be rescheduled as the May 1 deadline set by the FIA draws closer.

"We are in constant contact with concerned authorities to reschedule the Bahrain Grand Prix 2011," Al Khalifa said. "Now that security has prevailed and normal life has returned to Bahrain, thanks to the wise leadership, we are stepping up contacts to host the race anew."

Al Khalifa did not name any potential dates for the race to be held on, but neighbouring Abu Dhabi has previously said it would be willing to give Bahrain its 11-13 November slot and reschedule its own race for December.
