- Amir Khan v Lamont Peterson
Khan manager confirms rematch offer
Amir Khan appears to be on the verge of agreeing a rematch with Lamont Peterson after Asif Vali, Khan's manager, said he had received an offer from his opposite number.
Khan lost the WBA and IBF light-welterweight titles to Peterson in controversial circumstances at the weekend, with the Brit having two points deducted by referee Joe Cooper for pushing. Without those punishments, he would have kept his belts.
There were further murmurings of discontent from the Khan camp over the weekend when it emerged they were told after the bout their man had won - only for the ring announcer to confirm Peterson as the winner following a ten-minute delay.
Even without the disputed incidents a rematch looked likely, given the close and entertaining nature of the bout. And Khan, whose plans to move to welterweight have been delayed, appears to have an immediate chance to put the record straight.
"Barry Hunter [Peterson's manager and trainer] offered me a rematch in the corridor after the fight," Vali said to the Times. "He said, 'It was a great fight, let's do it again.' I am sure he will stick to his word. We will do it as Amir's next fight straightaway. I hope he comes to the UK. If not, then Vegas."
In the post-fight press conference, Peterson revealed he was willing to travel to face Khan. "He gave me my shot, I'm grateful for that, so of course I will give him a return," he said. "I wouldn't mind going to the UK for a rematch, but the deal will have to be right."
