Khan wants Floyd after 'April or May' Peterson rematch

Amir Khan believes Lamont Peterson is chasing big-money fights because he knows he is going to lose if he comes up against the Bolton fighter again.

The WBA officially ordered a rematch between the pair on Friday, following the controversial fallout of Khan's split-decision loss when their pair met in Peterson's native Washington DC last December.

However, a chance for Khan to reclaim his IBF and WBA light-welterweight titles is far from assured, as Peterson eyes a more lucrative potential contest - particularly against Manny Pacquiao in May.

"I think Lamont Peterson knows he will get beat again so he wants to give up the title and go and chase the money," Khan told Sky Sports News. "Does Manny Pacquiao really want to fight someone who he's easily going to beat? [Trainer] Freddie Roach would really prefer me to fight Peterson again.

"I think he knows he lost the last fight, and he knows he'll lose if we meet again. That's why he's making all these little excuses. If he really thinks I'm a sore loser, then lets's have it again. Because I know if we meet again it won't go the distance, I'll knock him out.

"I have a 10-week training camp so I envisage the Peterson [rematch] to be in April or May."

When asked if he would return to the site of his second professional defeat to settle matters with Peterson, Khan was adamant he would not.

"I'd never go back to Washington again," Khan added. "I'll fight him again somewhere neutral, Vegas maybe."

While the Peterson matter must be resolved before Khan's career can move forward, the 25-year-old insisted that the big fights he had lined up for 2012 are still a possibility.

"My ideal opponent is Floyd Mayweather Jnr," he added. "This fight has only put me back three months ... so a Floyd Mayweather fight is definitely a possibility for the end of this year."
