Audley keen for crack at Price
Audley Harrison has urged the British Boxing Board of Control to make him the mandatory challenger for David Price's British heavyweight title, with Price's promoter Frank Maloney giving the fight the green light.
With his reputation in tatters after a humbling defeat to David Haye in November 2010, Harrison made a winning return to the ring on Saturday by stopping Ali Adams in the fourth round.
Victory has put Harrison back in the domestic picture, and the 40-year-old is keen to challenge the unbeaten Price for his British and Commonwealth belts.
Maloney told West London Sport: "It's a fight we're interested in. We're looking to get in contact with him [Harrison]. There are a number of options we're looking at and I can say that Audley Harrison is one of them."
Price, who earned a fourth-round win over Sam Sexton to win the British and Commonwealth heavyweight straps, is set to defend his titles in September; Harrison is one possible opponent, as is fellow veteran Matt Skelton.
Should he fail to land a shot at Price, Harrison, who won Olympic gold in 2000, is also throwing his name into the hat to face Tyson Fury, who claimed the vacant Irish heavyweight championship with a fifth-round stoppage of Martin Rogan last month.
"Tyson Fury and David Price are both doing great, beating who they have in front of them and doing it in exciting fashion," Harrison told the Liverpool Echo.
"If they are not prepared to fight each other, the only other logical fight to be made is against me. If Sky Sports, or Channel 5 accepts anyone else, I think the boxing public and casual sporting fan will be genuinely disappointed.
"Additionally, I cannot see any other boxer who the Boxing Board can nominate for the British title other than myself and I'll be making my case this week.
"I need a test to see what I have left and they need a test to see if they are ready to move onto bigger and better things. A crossroads fight with everything to fight for will capture the public's imagination. Win, lose, or draw; I'm leaving everything I have in the ring. Both Frank Maloney and Mick Hennessey [Fury's promoter] know how to contact me."
