Manny Pacquiao's chances of avenging his defeat to Timothy Bradley have been given a boost after the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) ruled that the Filipino should have won their recent world title bout.

Pacquiao suffered a controversial loss at the hands of Bradley when the pair met at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on earlier this month, surrendering his WBO welterweight belt in the process.

The split decision verdict in Bradley's favour provoked outrage within the boxing world, with Pacquiao the clear winner in many people's eyes.

The WBO has since reviewed the contest, meeting with five international judges to analyse the fight from start to finish, and they unanimously agreed Pacquiao was the victor.

Although the sanctioning body is unable to overturn the initial result, it has recommended that a rematch takes place - a move that Pacquiao has welcomed.

"My supporters shouldn't worry. We're going to get that title," Pacquiao said.
