Price: Career would be at stake v Fury

Liverpudlian heavyweight David Price believes that an all-British square off with Tyson Fury would leave one of their careers in tatters yet expressed his desire for the bout to happen.

Price had a comfortable, yet impressive, 2012 as he won all four of his fights by knockout and is looking for higher calibre opponents this year.

His first test will come on February 23 against American Tony Thompson but it's the 24-year-old Fury who has caught Price's eye, and a shot at a world title which he says should only be five fights away.

"[It's] the biggest domestic clash of current times," Price told Sky Sports News. "We are both highly ranked in the world scene, both expected to go on and do big things but only one of us is going to do that.

"It's the biggest domestic fight we have seen for a long time so that's why it's so exciting, that's why we all want it to happen so let's make it happen.

"I have had 15 fights, If I am not fighting for a world title in another five fights then there's something wrong."

Price's promoter Frank Maloney reiterated his fighter's desire for the clash but said Fury's camp were not so keen on it.

"If they want it, we'll do it, we'll sit there round a table, we'll talk to them, we'll go to purse bids, we'll fight them," Maloney said. "We are on board, it's the other side. If they are not on board there's nothing I can do.

"Listen, I can make big fights, I can't do miracles. I am not God. Maybe we need God to make this fight. I am just leaving it now, they know we want this fight so if they want to pick up the telephone, I'll go and meet them."
