Amir Khan has conceded defeat in his attempt to agree a fight with Lamont Peterson, with the WBA light-welterweight champion turning his attentions to a possible clash with Northern Ireland's Paul McCloskey.

Khan's stock has grown considerably after he battled his way to a points victory over the aggressive Marcos Maidana in December. However, his Las Vegas triumph appears to have left potential opponents eyeing unrealistic pay packets, with American Peterson apparently pricing himself out of a bout.

When asked about Peterson, Khan told BBC Five Live he had demanded "a huge figure - just too much money."

As a result, the unbeaten McCloskey, who is the current European champion, is on the radar and Khan admits he is contemplating agreeing to a fight with a man who has strung together 22 consecutive wins as a professional.

Khan said: "He approached us. He's an undefeated fighter. I'm happy to take the fight on."
