Amir Khan has re-opened talks over an April 16 bout with Paul McCloskey.

Negotiations for the MEN Arena showdown appeared to have broken down after promoter Barry Hearn labelled Khan's first offer "a joke".

Khan later responded by warning McCloskey that plenty of other fighters, including Lamont Peterson, would take the money if he declined, but now it seems the Khan camp has improved the terms of the contract.

"I hope he takes our second offer and it is going to be higher," said Khan. "He should think 'this is an opportunity for a world title fight and if I beat him, it will make me a big, big name'."

McCloskey's manager, Francie McNicholl, confirmed an agreement was close.

"They had initially told us we had to take or leave their offer, but things look a lot more promising now," said McNicholl. "We understand they are preparing to offer us better terms and we'll make sure they're right for Paul before we sign any contracts. That's where we are at the minute."
