Kell Brook has vowed to ride to Amir Khan's rescue by taking him on in Manchester on April 16.

WBA light-welterweight champion Khan has struggled to find an opponent for the date, with Paul McCloskey snubbing two offers and Lamont Peterson apparently unwilling to step up.

With time running out, reports have suggested that he has now turned his attention to Junior Witter, who has been out of action for 18 months since losing to Devon Alexander. John Murray, the European lightweight king, is also thought to be on Khan's radar.

Brook, a veteran of 23 unbeaten fights, has told Khan he would represent the perfect warm-up for a scrap against Floyd Mayweather Jnr.

"Come on Khan stop messing about and give the fans and media a real fight that they want to see - against me," Brook said.

"If he's talking big about fighting Mayweather then why is he overlooking the best welterweight in Britain first? I'm fit and ready to go. My promoter Frank Warren wants the fight - the only person who doesn't want it is Khan.

"I would knock him clean out, he might have hand speed but I'm just as fast and I carry three-times the power that he does. Khan reckons that he did me in sparring years ago, so now he can try and do it for real."
