A problem with the Lotus's differential was to blame for Kimi Raikkonen's disappointing qualifying performance at the Canadian Grand Prix, in which he only managed 12th on the grid.

"Obviously it's disappointing to go out in Q2 but we had some issues with the differential which meant the car wasn't handling as it should," he said. "It's a hydraulic problem, we had some problems yesterday and it seems to have come back. When the diff isn't working exactly as it should and the car isn't handling like it should then it's difficult, but we tried."

However, Raikkonen is optimistic the problem will not have such a big effect on his race pace, and with more sets of tyres to choose from than most the cars in front, he is confident of a better race.

"We had no issues on the long runs yesterday, we have options to choose from with the tyres, and the warmer weather is definitely suiting us better so hopefully we can put everything right before tomorrow and go from there," he added. "The race is where it counts, so let's see what we can do."
