Aggressive strategy paid off - Perez

Sauber's Sergio Perez praised his aggressive strategy at the Canadian Grand Prix, which allowed him to one-stop and end up third after starting 15th on the grid.

Perez stayed on the same set of tyres for 41 laps before stopping for super-softs and moving up five places in the final stint. It was Perez's second podium of the season and he said it was not something he had anticipated after starting so far back on the grid.

"We started 15th and the last thing you think about is a podium," he said. "We went quite aggressive and the first stint was quite good. The stop was very good and then the second stint was really good and I managed to overtake some cars in difficult manoeuvres and then I saw that the degradation was not so high for me and I could manage my tyres well."

Perez said he hoped the result could be a turning point for Sauber after some disappointing results in recent races.

"It's a great result for the team after such a bad say yesterday - we had a lot of trouble with the brakes. Today it was just great to finish here in the podium, it's a great boost for the team. After Malaysia it's the second time we get into the points and it's our second podium. Hopefully we will continue to get into the points because we were very quick in Monaco and Barcelona as well and it's great to come back and get a podium. Also to do it here because we are close to my home country and there are quite a lot of Mexicans around which is great."
