The 2011 Chinese Grand Prix will not be given the FIA's full go-ahead until March, a month before it is set to take place in mid-April.

The race is marked as provisional on the official season calendar because mandatory changes to the Shanghai International Circuit, including improvements to its track surface and rain drainage, need to be made before it is homologated for grand prix racing by the FIA.

A spokeswoman for the FIA told Reuters on Tuesday: "The Shanghai International Circuit has confirmed that all work as requested by the FIA will be carried out and should be completed by the end of February. Before a new licence can be issued, the FIA will carry out a final inspection in March."
