British heavyweight Dereck Chisora has had his boxing licence withdrawn by the British Boxing Board of Control.

Already suspended indefinitely by the WBC, the former British heavyweight champion was summoned to a misconduct hearing on Wednesday following a series of unsavoury incidents surrounding his defeat to Vitali Klitschko in Germany last month.

Chisora slapped Klitschko at the weigh-in, spat water at the Ukrainian's brother, Wladimir, before the first bell, and was involved in an ugly brawl with David Haye at the post-fight press conference which ended with the Zimbabwe-born Londoner threatening to shoot Haye.

"His licence got withdrawn and what will happen now is we'll consider whether to appeal the decision," Chisora's promoter Frank Warren confirmed.

BBBoC secretary Robert Smith gave no indication as to how long the ban would last, merely confirming that Chisora would be free to reapply for a licence in the future.

"Dereck Chisora, on his own admission, did not behave in a manner consistent with that of professional boxer and let down not only himself and his family but also all those licence holders who behave in a professional, disciplined manner," Smith said.

"The stewards of the British Boxing Board of Control want to make it absolutely clear that such behaviour by any licence holder will not be tolerated. Accordingly, they have decided that Dereck Chisora is not a fit and proper person to hold a BBBoC boxer's licence and his licence is withdrawn with immediate effect.

"Any person is allowed to reapply at some point; the board will consider any application, but as of today Mr Chisora does not hold a BBBoC licence."

Chisora has 14 days to appeal.
