Muamba remains Coyle's sole priority

Owen Coyle's statement on Fabrice Muamba

Owen Coyle says Bolton's relegation battle is of little concern to him as midfielder Fabrice Muamba continues his recovery from a cardiac arrest.

The 23-year old remains in the intensive care unit at The London Chest Hospital, where medical staff are continuing to monitor his progress following his collapse during Wanderers' FA Cup clash at Tottenham on Saturday.

Coyle has been in London ever since accompanying Muamba to hospital in the ambulance, and on Monday he admitted he had been "humbled" by the global display of support for the former England Under-21 international.

On Tuesday, Muamba was reported as having had a "comfortable night" and has held brief conversations with Coyle and members of his family.

But despite Muamba's progress, Coyle insists it is still early stages and refused to turn his attentions to the Trotters' clash against relegation rivals Blackburn on Saturday.

"The answer to that is no, because that's not something of great importance to me at this moment in time," Coyle said. "Football pales into insignificance at this point as we know.

"In the course of today, as we hope and pray that Fabrice continues to improve, that's something we will have to look at. My thoughts are that we will have the group back in training [on Wednesday] and we will look at it from then. The one concern we all have is for Fabrice only."

When asked whether he thought Muamba was capable of making a full recovery, Coyle replied: "That is something that they have said has happened before. Every case is of its own individual merits but the two things that Fabrice has that could help him is that he is such a fit young man and the life he has had, he has had to fight every step of the way so those two things will stand him in good stead."
