Modric confirms intention to leave Tottenham

Luka Modric's time at Tottenham appears to be nearing its end after the player confirmed he cannot achieve his dreams at White Hart Lane, with widespread reports in England and Spain suggesting the player's agent, Mario Mamic, has met with Real Madrid.

Modric set for a move away from north London as the likes of Madrid, Manchester United and Paris-Saint Germain chase his signature. Reports in the English press claim the playmaker is set to hand in a transfer request, with Spurs asking for a £40 million transfer fee.

Modric is quoted as saying in Spanish newspaper Marca: "I'm going to play in the Champions League, I want to win that competition. I'm not going to be able to achieve my dream here."

The midfielder is seeking Champions League football as soon as next season, and talk of an imminent exit has developed since Spurs missed out due to Chelsea winning last season's competition. Still on holiday following Croatia's Euro 2012 exit, Modric is understood to have told Spurs he wants to leave this summer.

Modric's revelation that he does not see his future at the club comes less than 24 hours after Gareth Bale showed his commitment by signing a new contract. The extension keeps him at White Hart Lane until 2016.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are reportedly poised to snare Hoffenheim midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson in a move which could pave the way for Modric to depart.
