Floyd Mayweather Jr's schedule for 2013 already appears laid out, with Saul Alvarez's team claiming El Canelo will be next after an expected bout between Mayweather and Robert Guerrero.

Mayweather and Alvarez are set to fight on the same evening on May 4, in separate bouts. It is widely anticipated that the American's competition will come in the shape of WBC interim welterweight champion Guerrero.

Alvarez is expected to meet WBA light-middleweight champ Austin Trout on the same bill, in an attempt to promote a future collision between Mayweather and Alvarez for September.

Alvarez's trainer, "Chepo" Reynoso revealed the bigger picture in a recent interview, claiming there is already an understanding with Golden Boy Promotions that El Canelo will meet Mayweather later this year.

"Eric Gomez, [vice-president] of Golden Boy Promotions, came to Guadalajara and we agreed that Saul and Floyd would share the evening in May," Reynoso was quoted as saying by Boxingscene.

"We already reached a financial agreement [for May], and a guarantee that we will face [Mayweather] in September in Las Vegas. We believe that it is time for Canelo to show what he is made of."

Alvarez is developing a significant reputation, already holding the WBC light-middleweight belt at the age of 22. He is yet to be beaten and has amassed over 40 professional fights.

Victories over the likes of Matthew Hatton, Josesito Lopez, Shane Mosley and Kermit Cintron have caught the eye of promoters, and Alvarez will be very much in the spotlight when he shares a card with Mayweather in May.

Already backed by a strong Mexican following, Alvarez has a style to make a big pay-per-view with Mayweather, and one more win will ensure he has the name to match. September 14 is earmarked for the Mayweather v Alvarez collision, although much is still to be confirmed.
