  • Heinrich Brussow has ended speculation about his future by agreeing a new deal with the Cheetahs which will keep him in South Africa through to the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

The openside, 23, has reportedly turned down overseas offers to remain with Free State. He is currently recovering from a serious knee injury that ended his Super 14 season and will hope to rediscover the form that led to him playing a major part in last year's series win over the British & Irish Lions and Tri-Nations victory.

  • Ospreys lock Lyndon Bateman has been forced to retire by a long-standing knee injury. The 31-year-old won two Magners League titles before dislocating his patella in January 2009.

  • Sosene Anesi will return to New Zealand in order to play for Waikato in this season's national provincial championship. The former All Black spent the Super 14 season with the Waratahs.

  • Canterbury prop Peter Borlase will join Munster once this season's national championship commitments are completed. Borlase, 25, made his Canterbury debut against South Canterbury in 2006 but a back injury forced him to miss the 2007 season.

"It is a shame to have lost a player so young who has still to reach his potential, but opportunities to play at a club like Munster do not occur very often," Canterbury boss Rob Penney said. "We wish him well."
