Mark Webber says he "missed a very big chance to challenge for the win" in the German Grand Prix after finishing seventh.

Having started strongly and been following team-mate Sebastian Vettel closely, Webber's first pit stop saw him leave with a loose wheel which detached from his car and struck an FOM cameraman. Having rejoined the race a lap down, a safety car period helped Webber recover to seventh but he said he would have been in the mix for victory.

"It's the most possible time loss you can have," Webber said. "You lose a wheel, obviously the guys have got to come and get the car back and it's fortunate that everyone is OK - obviously the wheel comes off and that's the most important thing.

"After that then you focus on the result. We missed a very big chance to challenge for the win today. In the end I did what I can do. That's it … it makes the result even worse when I knew that I was with these guys at the first round of pit stops looking very good.

"I spent the rest of the race pushing as hard as possible, watching a bit of the big screen to see who is doing what and that's it, I couldn't do any more."
