Rosberg already relishing 2015 challenge
Nico Rosberg says he is proud of taking the title battle with Lewis Hamilton to the final round this season and says he looks forward to the challenge of improving as a driver in 2015.
In a video posted to Mercedes' Facebook page on Monday, the day after Lewis Hamilton won the championship with victory in Abu Dhabi, Rosberg re-iterated his belief the best man won the championship. Despite losing the championship Rosberg exceeded expectations in 2014, claiming the inaugural FIA Pole Trophy at his Mercedes team-mate's expense despite qualifying previously being viewed as a Hamilton strong point.
Rosberg says his qualifying performance since Hamilton joined Mercedes in 2013 is a positive, even if he knows his race day performances need to improve next season if he wants to win the title.
"The good thing for me is I've been qualifying better than Lewis for two years now," Rosberg said in the video. "That's a really good basis to build on for next year. What I need to work on is the racing, a tiny, tiny bit, where I think Lewis has had a bit of an edge over me in the last couple of races, or towards the end of the season anyway. I will find it, definitely, because I know where to work on and I look forward to that challenge too. Next year, all-out attack again!"
Rosberg also paid tribute to the fans who have supported him this season and said his battle with Hamilton is why he loves Formula One.
"He did a great season, at a very, very high level, and it was a great, great battle. That's what I do racing for, to battle Lewis, who for me was the best driver on the grid this year. To be there with him all the way fighting it out until the final race was awesome. Of course now I'm disappointed it didn't go my way, it went his way but that's the way it is."
