Kamui Kobayashi is set to test a Super Formula car in his native Japan next week for Toyota Motor Sports.

He drove for Caterham in F1 this season, but with the team still searching for a buyer to take it forward and no guarantees of a race drive if it succeeds, Kobayashi will likely drive outside F1 next year. Super Formula is the top single seater category in Japan, made up of a field of high-performance Dallara-built cars powered by either Toyota or Honda engines.

Koabayshi will test a Toyota-powered car at the series' rookie test at Okayama Circuit on December 10th and 11th, although it is not yet clear whether it will lead to a race drive in 2015.

"I cannot confirm anything for 2015 yet, but I am happy to be given this opportunity," he said. "I heard SF14 is a great racing car and also it has been a long time since I last tested at Japanese circuit. So, I will definitely enjoy these two days."

Kobayashi's career is closely linked with Toyota after graduating from the company's young driver scheme and making his F1 debut with its team in 2009.

Ex-F1 driver Kazuki Nakajima won the 2014 Super Formula title, beating, among others, fellow World Endurance Championship regulars Andre Lotterer and Loic Duval.
