Ex-Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenciali has been appointed president of the FIA's Single-Seater Commission, replacing Gerhard Berger.

Domenicali stepped down from his role at Ferrari in April after a disappointing start to the season and has since been hired by Audi in a developmental role, which he will continue to do alongside this appointment. The news was confirmed at the FIA's World Motor Sport Council meeting in Qatar on Friday.

Berger was appointed to the commission in 2011 but announced he was stepping down earlier this year. He pushed for a simplified path to Formula One during his tenure and played a key role in the FIA's European Formula 3 and Formula 4 categories.
