According to Valentino Rossi's father, the MotoGP star's switch to Ducati for next season is a good omen for a possible future in F1.

Currently at Yamaha, Rossi announced on Monday that he would join the Italian team for the 2011 and 2012 seasons. And because Ducati and Ferrari share a common sponsor in Marlboro, Rossi's father Graziano thinks that a Formula One drive within four years is a definite possibility.

"Valentino is not yet able to stop with the motorcycles," Rossi Snr told Italy's Sky Sport. "But if in three or four years he will get into Formula One, then what better road than with Ducati? This seems like a big step forward."

Rossi has been linked to a drive with Ferrari on several occasions in the past, having conducted numerous tests for the Maranello based team including an outing at the Circuit de Catalunya in January.
