The Spa Francorchamps circuit has been re-issued with its racing licence after overturning a temporary ban due to excessive noise levels.

The news should ensure the legendary circuit's position on the Formula One calendar in the future, although the economic viability of holding a grand prix year-in year-out is still in question.

Complaints over noise levels at the circuit resulted in local authorities sanctioning a 17-year ban on racing at the popular venue. In practice the ban lasted a few weeks, as Spa made clear its intention to appeal, but the potential of further restrictions loomed large over the circuit's future.

This week, backed with a petition signed by over 35,000 people, the track was able to persuade the Wallonia government to grant permission for racing to continue until March 2011 at least.
