Four-time world champion Alain Prost has warned Kimi Raikkonen that he may find it hard to return to Formula One if he takes a year out in 2010.

Raikkonen is expected to take a sabbatical, having failed to secure a race seat with a top team after he was replaced by Fernando Alonso at Ferrari. He has hinted at aspirations of competing in the World Rally Championship instead, after a couple of outings in the series earlier this year.

However, Prost, who took a year away from F1 in 1992 before returning in 1993 to win his final championship, believes Raikkonen needs to keep himself in top condition if he has any aspirations of returning to the sport in 2011.

"He will try to go rallying, but he is a bit lazy, likes to party and drink a little," he told the radio station Europe One. "When you take a year off you have to be extremely serious about it, preparing physically and mentally."

He added that Raikkonen's reputation for laziness, whether true or not, may also discourage teams giving him a drive when he decides to return.

"Some Ferrari people in particular didn't appreciate his remoteness from the engineers." said Prost. "He is a superb driver but it may be difficult for him to get the people who are half-way down the middle about him to trust him again in 2011."
