Sebastian Vettel is expecting a "tight" qualifying hour ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix on Saturday after topping the Friday practice sessions by just 0.166 seconds.

Vettel clocked the quickest time with a 1:37.688 ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button in the McLarens. With fuel loads unknown during the Friday's running there is a chance the gap could be even smaller during Q3 on Saturday.

"There's still a lot to do and I think it will be tight tomorrow and on Sunday, so we'll look where we can improve," he said. "But, today we had no big issues."

And he warned against reading too much in to the Friday practice times.

"We had a good day today, but it's only Friday and so it's early in the race weekend. We found a good rhythm and we're happy with the car."
